Journalist
Nice to meet you!
I am a writer, reporter, and editor with over a decade of experience in digital and print media. I currently work as a senior features writer for Northeastern Global News at Northeastern University. Until March 2023, I was deputy editor of Northeastern’s Experience Magazine, also contributing award-winning longform features on the communal power of online word games, the psychology of crowds post-COVID, experimental opera, and restorative justice for a police killing in the Jim Crow South.
My first-person writing for Experience includes essays on grief and the pet industry, viral baby products, and falling in love on AOL Instant Messenger.
Before Experience, I spent six years as a staffer at The Christian Science Monitor, where I reported on the impacts of economic trends and policy on individuals and families. My work has been featured in the Sunday Long Read and Pocket’s Best of year-end roundup, and been recognized by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). My writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, Salon.com, The Forward, MyRecipes, Back Stage, and more.
I grew up near Jacksonville, Florida and am a graduate of Florida State University and NYU. I live in Needham, Massachusetts with my husband, two small kids, a cat old enough to vote, and a large dog. It’s pronounced “Shyler,” which I can explain if you like.
